Vesti la giubba, e la faccia infarina

I think we can all agree that actors and movies today are much, much better than they were in the early days of Hollywood. I’m not talking about Transformers or X-Men, I’m talking about Michael Clayton, Gone Baby Gone, or Seven Pounds, for example, compared to David Copperfield, It Happened One Night or A Farewell To Arms. Actors? How about Jude Law or Emma Thompson compared to Marlene Dietrich and James Cagney? There’s no comparison.

Now I’m not sure how many of you listen to Opera, but the same holds true. We all know Domingo, Carreras and Pavarotti were head and shoulders above other tenors of our time, but you have to give these guys the “best ever” medal. I recently listened to some of Caruso’s arias and they sounded awkward, like the acting of the 30’s. If you have a chance (or maybe bored enough) stay online and compare Pavarotti’s Vesti la Giubba to Caruso’s. To me, Caruso couldn’t hold Pavarotti’s jock strap.
